Treatment at the specialized psychosomatic department

MUDr. Jaromír Kabát, Ph.D.
Psychosomatická klinika, s. r. o., Praha

Psychosomatic medicine deals with the interaction between psychosocial and biological factors participating in the origin and development of psychosomatic diseases and disorders, as well as with their course, treatment and prevention. It does not include those theoretical approaches that deny the possibility of the psychological influence on emergence and development of diseases, on the other hand, nor concepts that do not pay any attention to the physical aspects of the illness. This defines the boundaries of psychosomatic medicine, scientifically based and developed medical speciality, in which the Psychosomatic Clinic in Prague is engaged. In the article, we present the concept, main principles and tools for the treatment of our patients. We will also briefly introduce the research studies on the effectiveness of our psychosomatic therapy.

Keywords: psychosomatic therapy, multimodal treatment, interdisciplinary team, psychosomatic medical institution, psychosomatics.
