Civil law and forensic psychiatry share extensive common ground wherein the expert psychiatrist particularly addresses the issues of
legal competence. This needs to be assessed mainly in cases where there is doubt concerning the mental condition of the person who
committed a legal act by drawing up a will or making a contract of purchase or of donation. An expert report is based on a clinical psychiatric
examination; if this is not possible in case the person in question is no longer alive, it is based on a thorough study of legal and health
documentation. Regardless of which party of the dispute requested it, the expert report must be completely objective and impartial.
