V práci je podán přehled psychoterapeutických metod, které se používají v léčbě schizofrenie a je shrnuta jejich účinnost. Psychoterapie bez farmakologické léčby účinná není a proto musí být kombinována s léčbou farmakologickou. Dynamická psychoterapie se nezdá být u schizofrenie efektivní. Podpůrná psychoterapie redukuje symptomatologii i počet rehospitalizací a zlepšuje sociální a pracovní adaptaci nemocných. Některé psychosociální dovednosti lze nacvičit, efekt však přetrvává nejdéle 2 roky. Efektivita psychoterapie je dána nejen stavem nemocného, ale i řadou dalších, především sociálních faktorů. Klinicky nejúčinnější jsou psychoterapeutické postupy, ve kterých se flexibilně používá různých metod a technik podle aktuálního stavu pacienta a psychoterapie se stala důležitou součástí integrované péče o nemocné schizofrenií.
